NFFC 9th Birthday - Newport Fiddle Friends and Chocolate Cake

Nine years of good times at the Newport Fiddle and Folk Club is a good time to share and enjoy some seriously rich chocolate cake washed down with a cuppa and a chat.  Sue Davies was in charge of proceedings (cutting and serving the cake) and Margaret Davies made sure the kitchen was spotless after the troops had been through.  Apart from the chat and supper, there were friends from down at Dysdale (interested in getting the master - Greg O'Leary - to help them form a Bush Orchestra) some from Reservoir (been to the festival - wanted to see how things operate during the year) new collaboration (Christine, Rob, Greg and guest flautist from Canberra) poetry and stories, and some fabulous songs (check out 'God Says No ).  All this and then a presentation of a new cd by Alastair Cameron - a NSW singer who just released his first CD.  The CD was notable as the dedication was in part to his old (as in long ago) guitar teacher and supporter Rob Durbridge.  Rob wasn't able to be there last night (beginning his treatment) but we were all able to celebrate this on Rob's behalf and wish Rob all the best for the months ahead.  Lots of good stuff come out of these sessions - many of them musical but the most important are the friendships.  Here's to another year of musical and social gatherings in this aptly named Community Hall.
