Last Friday night July 19 the folk club hosted a bbq and drinks night for all of the Volunteers whose energy and varied contributions lead to such a successful 6th Newport Folk Festival. Despite being a really cold and really wet night 40 volunteers and committee members came out to the Scout Hall at 6.30 - the fire was blazing and so there was plenty of warmth in the room and a lovely friendly and welcoming spirit of celebration and community felt by all. Ted Smith got the music going early and then Don Gula brought out the bass and gathered up various players and singers for a rollicking set of good time songs and tunes. Everyone enjoyed the snags, vegie burgers and the assorted drinks, and of course lots of chat about festival experiences and shared memories of a great event. As the rain got louder so did the talk and the music - all up a great night that ended once the fire went out. Many thanks for all the volunteers for all their contributions, and especially to our treasurer and marvellous organiser Sue Davies who got things sorted at the festival, and completed her tour of duty by organising the volunteers evening. Fantastic to be part of such a strong community of people where lots of people understand that the contribution is central to the enjoyment of such events. Well done.
